Brief 2 “Social
Integration” Idea
My idea for the teaser trailer would be a present day
action/thriller aimed towards students and or people who enjoy a film that makes you really think and take
notice to things they wouldn’t normally think about that happens every day. The
film is about a new invention that has started to become very popular, the
invention is basically a form of social network that allows someone to put on
this technology and have the same effects as dreaming but also allows them to
enter a world that their friends can also enter so it is sort of a shared dream
state similar to the film Inception only the things they can do in this world
aren’t the same as what they can do in reality. The main story behind the film
though is about a small group of students who are still in reality and are
standing back watching their friends and even themselves slowly lose their
minds as they cant place what is reality and what isn’t and how they can
overcome certain obstacles. I think the film would be catered towards students
more than any other audience is because the characters we see are ones that are
probably the same age as them and would understand some of the decisions that a
certain character would make and or something that character might say in a
certain situation.
The inspiration for this idea obviously comes from the film
Inception directed by Christopher Nolan as my idea has many similarities to the
film such as the shared state in which they are in when using this technology
and the fact that you can do things such as bring loved ones who may not be
alive anymore into this world. Another inspiration I got was from the book
Islands by Aldous Huxley the book features a man who moves to the island of
Pala and at first never wants to leave but as time goes on things aren’t at all
what they seem and he has to deal with the decisions he has made, Islands is
one of my favourite books Inception as a matter of fact is also one of my
favourite films which is why I am interested in the subject and like to explore
further.
The style of the film would be very sort of dark and down to
earth something really gritty nothing nice about it, the characters in this
film I want to be like sort of drug addicts who can’t get enough of this and
just want more of it, people who can’t get a grip on reality. The teaser would
be shot using a low camera angles and quick cut shot types when showing a
certain character to give you an idea on what it’s like to be them at that
point in time. Another thing I like is the camera effects that are used on the
music video The Wilhelm Scream by James Blake, the focus going in and out of
the shot to make it sort of look really gritty and hazed. This style of
shooting is also used in the television show Misfits which when showing some
characters in certain moods or situations the camera reflects the fact that
they are alone or confused which is something I really like as a simple shot
can tell you everything there is about one scene without a character saying
anything.
Brief 3 “Breaking
Bradford” Idea
My idea for a new soap would be a drama involving different
characters of different social classes focused more on the working class as
they are trying to adapt to changes in society as they live in an area that is
getting many different people moving in from other countrys and trying to make
a living in this place of England, the soap would take place in Bradford as
Bradford has changed drastically over the past 10 years and has gone from a
respected city to somewhat of a tourist attraction which would lead to some
very interesting characters young and old from multiple different racial and
ethnic backgrounds that would all bring something new to a soap opera. My
target audience would be of the older generation who maybe understand what
Bradford’s state is at the minute and where it once was also the type of person
who loves gossip and would talk about it with their friends in real life sort
of how they would talk to their friends or family about what happened in
Coronation Street the previous week.
The inspiration for Breaking Bradford comes from the current
soap operas as most of the new soap operas are trying something different with
their show as they are now catering to every viewer at different ages,
especially the soap opera Eastenders as they have added a variety of different
characters over the past few years all from different cultural and ethical
backgrounds and all with individual stories to tell, there has also been some
controversial story lines over the course of the show that make very good
television and keeps the viewer interested and that’s why I think my idea is
good and would get people tuning in.
The style of the soap opera would be as down to earth as
possible with tracking shots constantly to show conversations between
characters and gossip from other characters in the following scene, it would
just be your typical soap opera you would find on a day to day basis but with
different locations and characters, locations such as Bradford’s old fashioned
styled buildings and monuments would act as great backdrops to some of these
characters.
